Good-bye, Sable

We put our older dog Sable, down on Wednesday. She was slowly getting worse over the last couple of years - the vet said she had really bad arthritis and could not guarantee an operation would be successful.  She fell down our basement steps and must have ruptured something.

The vet said the x-rays showed a possible tumor on either her heart or her spleen. Something inside ruptured and she had severe internal bleeding.

We had her cremated and the funeral home furnished a beautiful wooden box with her remains. That leaves 3 dogs and four cats. And one cat ain't lookin' so good.

Basement update

 The game room area.

The new bed.

My daughter is having a little problem adjusting to sleeping downstairs. Second night was better than the first. The first though, she was so sore and tired from hauling, moving and setting up heavy furniture.

Guess what I did? Nothing. They did it all.

I feel a little deserted but I will get used to it.

The dogs all want to be downstairs with them, of course. And, they allow them.

My bathroom upstairs? Stalled.

heh, heh.

Only me!

omigosh you guys!  I am so goofy.

I recall a movie winning awards. It began with the word "Bird".

So, I watched a movie. Unfortunately, I chose "Bird People".

Thinking I had the right movie, it was at 17 minutes into the film that I began to question the sanity of the award givers. Scratching my head I kept thinking...what the?

My daughter was watching the film with me at first and she was like "Beats me..."

Halfway through, I said "I MUST have the wrong movie!"

I looked and found the one I should have been watching is "Birdman!"

LOL!

The wrong movie is strange to say the least.

But, I DO love to laugh at myself.

So, now I need to watch the right movie, but some other time.

Sigh. Only me.

Super charmed

All I have to say is, if this keeps up - that little boy (my great nephew) will never have any problems with the girls, charming them. He does look kind of scared, though. His big sis is behind him.

I'm trying to get back into the blogging mind set. Not sure what happened. Or, if it will stick. I started writing a journal (issues) and perhaps my needs are met there.

Been trying to get around and catching up on reading all of your posts, so you may see a comment pop up here and there from me. Sorry, I am behind.

Birthday Extravaganza

The month of March is full of birthdays. If you count back nine months, what is that?  June?  You automatically think June weddings.  A lot of them are not the first-born, though. Perhaps people attending weddings are reminded of their wedding/honeymoons? Eh?

Biggest fan

I do not promote dressing little girls up and showing them off. This is my great niece and she is in dance class. She has her own fan club - two younger brothers, mom and pop and my sister - the grand mother.

I can only imagine all the drama that goes on behind the scenes at these places. The hair spray, the make up the tears.

I loved the movie "Little Miss Sunshine".

Although I do not promote such activity, I also try not to judge. It is colorful - I like color. She does work hard and sacrifices a lot.

My absence from posting is not planned. I post for myself - when the spirit moves me. I guess I have not been moved much lately. I've had my mind on other things. Nothing rash - just puttering through life wondering if I am brave enough to make some changes.

Movie?  - Big Hero Six. Loved it. Very cute. Oh, I know what may be slowing me down with the posting. The kids joined Netflix and I joined Amazon Prime. We've been doing some marathon series watching.

Away from home

In Columbus at my annual work conference that I am expected to attend. Ugh. It is cold everywhere. Cold at the conference. I have my thermostat in my room turned up to 76º F. It is cold outside and going to get colder. I was hit with a migraine the first day - Tuesday. We left very early in the morning so I had to get up a lot earlier than normal. Did not get much sleep the night before.  Spent the afternoon in bed. Some co-workers went out drinking.  Free - vendor pays. No thanks!  The two guys I came up with went to dinner and back to their room.

The conference is open and huge - so cold!

We return home tomorrow. I took Friday off from work. Who wants to go in on Friday the 13th, anyway? And, we have the 16th off - no make up day, even though the schools have had several snow days.

Warmer weather by Tuesday by any chance?  Yes, then right back down again.

I made it through half of the movie "Gone Girl".  I may try again when I get back home. I got bored with it. Bored.

Maybe I'll just stop movies and stick to the books. I want to read American Sniper, yet. I have SO many books (ebooks, I mean) I plan to read. I read them on the PC, now. I skip the Nook - just too much trouble to keep it charged. I have been through two chargers on it and still it won't keep a charge. Maybe a defect? I dunno.

I have television in my motel room. Does that sound weird? What I mean is - I don't have cable TV at home (I download or stream all my shows) so regular tv - especially commercials are weird to me, now. I think this January makes 3  years without cable TV at home.

And, I sure wish Reese's would quit making chocolate peanut butter eggs, hearts, trees, pumpkins or any other holiday we have cooked up. And that white chocolate....my weakness.

One book down...

Books read:  1

Movie:  Yet to be seen.

Bathroom remodeling:  0

Have a good friend in the hospital close to my home town. She is currently battling COPD with pneumonia.  Horrible jolt of reality when visiting her. We laugh about the good times we have had.

I leave and wonder about smoking, about illness, about cancer, over eating, about diabetes, about life.   I skip stopping to get slices of my favorite pizza on the way home.

I've become a blabbermouth

To a co-worker. I've sat back in the lunchroom with her two days in a row (just us) and both days told her things I'd not told anybody else.

Damn.  This HAS to stop.

It is chili today.

Cooking up a batch of chili today. It will taste better tomorrow, right? Maybe I can fix grilled cheese today and we can chow on this tomorrow.

Then I am going to work on my bathroom. Right?  Right? right..?

Movies

I watched two movies over the long week-end. American Sniper and Selma. Both took me more than one sitting to watch them.

American Sniper reminded me of The Kingdom, which I really liked. It was good, but I liked it less than The Kingdom. I am trying hard to like B Cooper. Or, his choice of characters, I suppose.

Selma was very intense. Both movies are true-life events. Both sad. Both thought provoking and both grabbing you by the collar and saying "Wake up! There is hard life going on all around your precious little happy bubble!"

It makes me want to crawl under the covers and hide. But I realize, that is what I am already doing. I feel guilty enjoying my life when there is so much pain and un-fairness in the world.

Slow going

The basement is a priority compared to my upstairs bathroom. I am still washing wall paper paste off the walls in the bathroom. Tedious job.

Downstairs, they have Clorox'f the floor and added the first coat of primer in preparation for the new carpet.

The smells have slayed me. I have taken a migraine pill and it has kept the fumes from ripping my head apart (just barely). The smells still make me woozy, especially after I come in from taking the dogs outside.

It was a Chinese food fest last night and I don't want to see Chinese food for at least a year or so. Tonight it looks like sloppy Jo's and french fries. That should change the smell factor in the house. Oh, yeah!

It starts

To my family and friends, I said "After ten years...."  Now, I realize it has been 12 years. 12 years next month I purchased this house.  I immediately changed the paint in my bedroom. I had the living room re-done the exact same shade of blue - ceiling and baseboards blue also; for continuity. The painter tried to get me to go with the white ceiling and baseboard, but I liked the way the lady before me had it. That was about the only thing I liked from her style.

I have tolerated this bathroom for (now) 12 years - not 10.  It is pink on pink on pink. With pink fixtures, I can see some pink. But this lady had pink roses wall paper and behind the bathtub, pink stripes! Stripes AND flowers. My older sister loved it. Well, she and the lady I purchased the house from were about the same age and from the same generation.

My daughter and I picked up some paint samples. Still the same daughter. She and I agree on nothing.

At work we have some painters in, painting the walls. One suggested I go with gray walls. Well, that got me thinking. My daughter hated the idea. I love it.

I am a slow worker. Do not expect a lot on this project. I work as the spirit guides me. I am not a dedicated or disciplined person. I am artistic and ambivalent. I don't have one vision - I have several thousand visions. I usually like them all. The occupants in my house usually get irritated with me because I can go for months (years) with the room partially done. Some cannot tolerate this kind of arrangement. Me?  Again, I am ambivalent. I move, I change, I roll with it.

Right now the sanding has me stalled. I can't stand to wear the mask (I can't breathe) and the dust is far too much NOT to wear one. And, my arm is sore!

The good news is the wallpaper was (is) a heavy fabric material and peels right off without any remaining. It was a heavy, washable kind. Not that I washed the walls. Are you kidding me? I am in no way domesticated and I despise cleaning.

Here is a sample (from what I found on the Internets) of what my bedroom looked like before I had it re-painted. The stripes reflect the actual hue of the color. The flowers give you an idea of the pattern. I did not have a camera when I purchased the house. I have no photos to remind me - just my memory. Some images cannot be erased! LOL!
