It is my understanding that he moved on because of an ongoing illness that his wife has. He needed to take a break from acting. A tragedy, but like you I find some of the other males more appealing, as he was too fresh faced and innocent for someone returning from the war.
I didn't see Downtown Abbey. I'm not sure why... oh yes, we only have one TV and my wife has custody of the thingamajig that changes the channels, turns it on and off. That's her domain. I have a computer. Hope you have a great Christmas.
