Where are the shells? Does the Mother eat them?
From what i gather, mama bird removes the shells and drops them away from the nest. This both keeps the nest tidier and more spacious, and serves to confuse predators about where the nest is hidden.
They have to be away from the nest so that rodents and snakes are not attracted. Birds are really very neat.
